The Threshold.

Where a person decides to belong — once, in the open, with the cost stated. Not something anyone drifts into.

Open to you now — this page is open to read, and reading it is the honest first half of the crossing. The crossing itself is not being offered to anyone today, for the reason set out at the bottom of this page.

Almost every community makes joining as frictionless as possible and then wonders why so few people stay. This is built the other way round. A crossing that costs nothing to make is a crossing nobody has actually made — so this place slows down, states what is being asked, and lets a person decline it well.

What a crossing actually is

Four things happen here, in this order, and none of them is a payment screen.

  1. Expectations are set in both directions — what this asks of you, and what it owes you.
  2. Your situation is captured once, in your own words, so you never have to explain yourself twice.
  3. You are placed in one small named group. Not a tier, not a plan — about ten people and a guide.
  4. A first conversation with a real human is arranged before anything else begins.

What is asked, and what is promised

  • Asked of you

    Honesty in one small group, attendance you actually intend, an attempt at the practice rather than agreement with it, and a willingness to hand on what you receive. Nothing is received here that cannot be given.

  • Owed to you

    A named group, a guide who knows you, a room nobody reads, a way to leave without explanation, and a way to come back without one either.

  • Stated in full before you decide

    What it costs — in money, in time, and in exposure — written plainly at the crossing itself. A cost discovered afterwards is not a cost that was stated.

Three ways this ends, all of them fine

The crossing has three honest outcomes: you come in; you take what is freely given and go, which is a real outcome and not a failed one; or you stay in touch without joining anything. Nothing here is designed to make the second and third feel like a loss.

The crossing is not open yet

Nobody has crossed here, and nobody is being invited to today. A crossing requires a real human welcome on the far side of it — a person who receives you, hears your situation and stays with you afterwards — and no such person is currently bound to that role. Opening it without them would be the exact thing this page says it refuses: an easy joining that nobody is actually behind.

So there is no form on this page, no waiting list, no queue and nothing to be notified about. What is open in the meantime is everything that costs you nothing: a practice you can do today with no account, the whole of what we believe, and the open shelf of the Library.
