What we believe
The whole map
Fourteen places. One of them becomes yours; the rest are what you do there, and where it goes.
The centre
The small named group. Home. The place a person returns to from everywhere else.
Why belonging is built this small →
The Hearth
Where you are known.
Inside membership
- Why you’d be here
- Because this is the small named group that becomes home — the one place you return to from everywhere else.
- Who’s there
- Six to fifteen people in the same season, and a guide.
- Yours to do
- Say how it is actually going, and be there when someone else does.
- Where it leads
- Everywhere — and back here. The Workshop, the Table, the Bridge and the Field all return to the Hearth.
The open ground
Everything visible without belonging to anything. Not a lobby — a real part of the ecosystem where real life happens in public.
What the Court honours, and what it never will →
How a stranger is received at the Front Gate, and what is not yet running →
The Front Gate
Where a stranger is recognised.
Open to you now
- Why you’d be here
- To be named accurately before anything is explained to you or asked of you.
- Who’s there
- The ecosystem’s own voice, and the witness of people who were where you are.
- Yours to do
- Read it. Take the one real thing offered — a practice you can do today, with no account.
- Where it leads
- The Commons, the Threshold, or away with something worth having.
The Commons
Where the public life of this is visible.
Open to you now
- Why you’d be here
- To watch the movement being lived before deciding anything about it.
- Who’s there
- Everyone. Visitors read; members are the ones being read.
- Yours to do
- Look at what is actually happening here, including the parts nobody would advertise.
- Where it leads
- The Library’s open shelf, the Threshold, or back to the Front Gate’s one invitation.
The Court
Where service is honoured.
Open to view
- Why you’d be here
- To learn what this ecosystem actually values, by seeing who it has honoured and for what.
- Who’s there
- Everyone. Recognition here is public on purpose.
- Yours to do
- Read an act of service and the pattern underneath it. The pattern is the point, not the applause.
- Where it leads
- Someone else’s first contribution — often the reader’s. For a stranger, the Threshold.
The Council
Where the ecosystem governs itself.
Open to view
- Why you’d be here
- To read how decisions get made here, with their reasons, before trusting anyone with anything.
- Who’s there
- Stewards, and the community in defined matters.
- Yours to do
- Read a decision and its reasoning. Hold it against the Canon.
- Where it leads
- Trust in the whole system — enough to walk to the Threshold, or enough to decline it well.
The crossing
The one place in this world with a decision in it.
The Threshold
Where a person decides to belong.
Open to you now
- Why you’d be here
- Because belonging here is a decision made once, in the open, with the cost stated — not something you drift into.
- Who’s there
- You, and a real human welcome.
- Yours to do
- Say what you are actually coming for, and hear what is expected of you in return.
- Where it leads
- The Hearth. Nowhere else — the crossing has one destination.
The working ground
Where the work is done, discussed and deepened, among peers doing the same thing.
Why progress here is measured by evidence, not by what you finished →
The Workshop
Where practice happens.
Inside membership
- Why you’d be here
- To try the thing, badly, on purpose — not to read about it.
- Who’s there
- Others doing the same practice, and a practice steward.
- Yours to do
- Attempt it. Bring back what happened, including failure.
- Where it leads
- Back to your Hearth, to be witnessed. Or into the Library, for depth.
The Table
Where people talk with each other.
Inside membership
- Why you’d be here
- For real conversation across the whole community, not only your own group.
- Who’s there
- Everyone, across every season.
- Yours to do
- Ask the question you think is too basic. Disagree well when you disagree.
- Where it leads
- Relationships, the Bridge, and Hearths that learn from each other.
The Library
Where what this ecosystem knows is kept.
Open to you now — the open shelf. Inside membership — the Library in full.
- Why you’d be here
- To find what is already known here, trust it, and use it, instead of rediscovering it alone.
- Who’s there
- Knowledge stewards, and the members who wrote what is on the shelves.
- Yours to do
- Take what you need. Correct what is wrong. Retire what has stopped being true.
- Where it leads
- The Workshop, to apply it. The Table, to argue it. The Forge, to teach it.
The forming ground
Where a person is developed by someone, and then learns to develop someone.
What happens on the Bridge, and what a mentor may never do →
The Bridge
Where mentoring lives.
Your guide opens this with you
- Why you’d be here
- Because some things are only learned from one person who knows you and has agreed a purpose with you.
- Who’s there
- A mentor and a mentee. Usually nobody else.
- Yours to do
- Prepare. Turn up. Commit to something. Review it honestly, and close it well.
- Where it leads
- Your next season — and, through the Forge, back onto the Bridge as the mentor.
The Forge
Where members become multipliers.
Your guide opens this with you
- Why you’d be here
- Because forming another person is a skill, and nobody should be handed one without being formed first.
- Who’s there
- Those in formation, and those forming them.
- Yours to do
- Apprentice. Practise under supervision. Be corrected. Be commissioned when you are ready.
- Where it leads
- The Bridge as a mentor, the Hearth as a guide, or stewardship.
The outward
Where it leaves the building and reaches people who are not here.
What the Field asks, and why contribution starts in week one →
The Field
Where this leaves the building.
Opens when you’re sent
- Why you’d be here
- Because none of this was built for the people already here.
- Who’s there
- Members who have been commissioned, and the people they serve, who are not members.
- Yours to do
- Serve real people in a real place. Report back, so the ecosystem learns what actually happened.
- Where it leads
- New front gates, new Hearths, and a generation after yours.
The Field opens new front gates — which is how someone else arrives here.
The side rooms
Never on anyone’s path. Always one move away.
The Quiet Room
Yours, and nobody else’s.
Yours alone
- Why you’d be here
- Because honesty everywhere else is only possible if there is one room nobody reads.
- Who’s there
- You. No one else, stewards included.
- Yours to do
- Keep what you actually think. Nothing here is shown, shared or summarised.
- Where it leads
- Back to wherever you were — most often your Hearth. Nothing waits for you while you are here.
The Return
For when you come back.
Always here for you
- Why you’d be here
- Because leaving is ordinary here, and coming back should not cost you an explanation.
- Who’s there
- Someone who remembers who you were.
- Yours to do
- Arrive. That is the whole of it — the gap is honoured, not interrogated.
- Where it leads
- Your Hearth, if it is still yours. A new one, if it is not.
