The open ground

where this sits →

The Commons.

Where the public life of this is visible — so you can watch the thing being lived before you decide anything about it.

Open to you now — you can read all of this without an account, and you always will be able to. Being read is the part that belongs to members; watching costs you nothing and obliges you to nothing.

Most communities show strangers a brochure and keep the living part behind a login. That inversion is deliberate here. The evidence that this is real is not a claim on a landing page — it is the ordinary, unedited public life of the ecosystem, including the parts nobody would choose to advertise.

What belongs in public here

Four kinds of thing, and no fifth. Anything that is not one of these belongs to the smaller circle it came from.

  • Honest updates

What is actually happening, at the size it actually is — including what stalled, what was got wrong, and what was retired.

  • Open teaching

Whatever can be given away is given away, in full, with no account and no exchange for your details.

  • Visible service

What members did for people who are not members. Named with the pattern underneath it, so it can be copied rather than admired.

  • Stories, with consent

A person’s own account of their own life, told by them, published because they chose to — never harvested from something they said somewhere smaller.

What never travels out to here

The community is built as circles of increasing exposure, and nothing moves outward without the consent of the person it belongs to. This is the outermost circle but one, so the rules that protect the inner ones are strictest here.

  • Nothing from the Quiet Room. Ever, by anyone, including a steward.
  • Nothing said inside a Hearth, unless the person who said it publishes it themselves.
  • Nothing from inside a mentoring relationship.
  • No name attached to anyone who did not agree to be named — private honour is equally valid and is used.
  • No member counts, no activity counts, no growth charts. Numbers here would be a claim about people, and people are not a metric.

Nothing is happening here yet

The Commons is public life, and there is no public life yet, because there are no members yet. No story has been told here, no update posted, no act of service recorded. That is the whole truth of it.

Nothing will be staged in the meantime. There are no example stories written by us in someone else’s voice, no illustrative members, no placeholder activity to make the room look inhabited. When a real person tells their own account and chooses to publish it, it will appear here and it will be theirs — and until that happens this page stays honest and empty.

From here

  • The Library, open shelf

What has actually been written down and given away. Open, with no account.

  • The Council

How decisions get made here, published in the open. The other thing a stranger can weigh without joining anything.

  • How belonging works

The circles this page is the outer edge of, and what keeps the inner ones safe.

  • The whole map

The fourteen places, and how they fit.

  • Talk to a person

That place says plainly whether anyone is currently bound to answer.
