The Council.

Where the ecosystem governs itself — in the open, so that a stranger can weigh how decisions get made here before trusting anyone with anything.

Open to view — you can read how this place works and hold it against what we claim. Sitting on it is something else, and it is not offered here.

Governance here is not an administrative layer bolted on. It is the mechanism by which what we hold to survives contact with growth, money, conflict, and time. A philosophy that lives only in a founder’s head cannot be held to and cannot outlast them — so the method is written down, published, and open to argument.

What governance owns

Eight things, and not everything. Anything outside this list belongs to the person or the place doing it.

  • Interpreting what we hold to, and resolving its ambiguities.
  • Granting, reviewing, renewing, and withdrawing trusts.
  • Approving or rejecting new structures via the seven questions below.
  • Resolving disputes that exceed a place steward’s scope.
  • Setting and reviewing the AI Covenant, and its enforcement.
  • Overseeing the commercial layer so it never contaminates the developmental one.
  • Owning safeguarding standards, and reviewing serious incidents.
  • Reviewing multiplication at the ecosystem level, and acting on what it says.

How it works

Seven rules the Council is bound by. They are the standard you can hold a decision against — including a decision that goes against you.

  • Decisions are published with their reasons.

    A decision without a stated reason is not a decision; it is an assertion.

  • Decisions are traced to a principle.

    If none applies, what we hold to is incomplete — and the gap is addressed, not ignored.

  • Authority is plural.

    No single person, including a founder, decides these matters alone.

  • Those affected are heard.

    Before a decision that affects them, not after it has been announced.

  • Governance is visible.

    This place is what that means. You are reading it without an account, and so can anyone.

  • Governance is accountable to the people it serves.

    With defined channels of challenge — which is to say, disagreeing with it is a route that exists, not a lapse in manners.

  • Governance develops its own successors.

    What we hold to must be interpretable by people who never met its authors.

The seven questions

Every new place, system, AI capability, curriculum change, recognition standard and commercial offering passes the same test before it is accepted. It is published so you can apply it yourself — to this page, to this website, to anything we build next.

  1. What principle does this serve?
  2. What does it multiply, and how would we see the multiplication?
  3. Which relationships does it strengthen? Which could it weaken?
  4. What does it ask of the person, and what does it give them to give?
  5. What happens to the ecosystem if 10,000 people do this at once?
  6. Who stewards it, and how do they hand it on?
  7. If we removed it in a year, what would be missing?

A feature that cannot answer all seven is not ready. A feature that strengthens itself by weakening the whole is rejected outright.

The founder leaves

That is designed, not deferred. The architecture assumes from the first day that the founder will one day not be here, and every structure — what we hold to, the teaching, the mentoring, the stewardship, the AI — is built to be continued faithfully by people who never met the people who wrote it. Which is why authority is plural now, while it costs something, rather than later, when it would be too late to mean anything.

What you have just read is the method. There is no decision record on this page, and no one is named as sitting on the Council. Both of those are true statements about where this is, not gaps to be filled with something plausible — a fabricated ruling on the page that promises published reasons would be exactly the failure it describes. When decisions are made under this method, they appear here with their reasons and the principle they were traced to. Until then, this place says what it is bound by and nothing more.
