The Canon, in human language.
These twelve things are what this place holds to. They are written down on purpose — a community that keeps its principles as folklore loses them, and one that keeps them in a document can be held to them.
What all of it is for: taking a person from I have stopped hoping to I help others hope again — and making that passage repeatable, so it does not depend on any one person being in the room.
You are never left at a dead end.
Everything here ends by naming, honestly, something you could do next and why it might be right for you now. “Rest” and “come back later” are real answers, not consolation prizes. (P1)
Nothing is given here that you can’t hand on.
Every lesson, tool and practice arrives with a way of passing it to someone behind you. If we can’t say how you’d give a thing away, the thing isn’t finished and we don’t publish it. (P2)
We are measuring development, not conversion.
What counts is whether people grow and whether they help others grow. Money may open access to resources; no part of your growth is made conditional on a purchase you can’t make. (P3)
Technology has to leave you more connected, not less.
Anything automatic here must increase the amount or quality of human contact around you. Anything that makes people unnecessary to each other is refused, however well it works. (P4)
AI prepares and connects. It never stands in for a person.
It remembers, surfaces, drafts and introduces. It does not mentor you, decide your purpose, settle a dispute, or pretend to be human. Where it could replace a relationship, its job is to make that relationship easier to have instead. (P5)
Giving something is normal from the first week.
Contributing is not an advanced tier you are promoted into. What is asked early is small, real and honest — and it is asked of everyone. (P6)
Recognition names what you did for someone else.
It is written to make the next person’s turn easier, so it always says how someone else could do something like it. Recognition that only inflates status, or that creates scarcity between people, is prohibited. (P7)
People arrive at their lowest, so exposure is chosen.
There are places here where honesty is safe. Nothing you say in a smaller circle travels to a larger one without your consent. (P8)
Nobody is alone in a step they were asked to take.
Any step this place asks of you has a human presence around it — a companion, a group, a mentor, a cohort, or at the very least a witness. (P9)
You can always see how this works.
Where you are, what is expected, what you have been trusted with, and how anything advances. Hidden mechanics, surprise gates and unexplained decisions are breaches, not features. (P10)
Everything can be put down.
Every role, group and commitment has a defined, honorable exit. Stepping down costs no dignity here. Burning out is treated as a fault in the design, not a fault in you. (P11)
We have to show that this multiplies, not assume it.
Every structure here declares what new capacity it created in somebody — not how much activity it produced. The ones that can’t demonstrate it over time get redesigned or retired. (P12)
One question is applied to everything here, forever: does this multiply what has been entrusted to this place — and does it leave the people in it more connected to each other than it found them?
This is version 1.0 of the Canon. It can be changed — deliberately, with the reasons published, and never quietly.
