The forming ground
where this sits →The Bridge.
Where mentoring lives — one bounded, purposeful relationship between two people, with an agreed reason and a designed ending.
Your guide opens this with you — a mentoring relationship is opened with you by your guide, never applied for and never assigned by a system. How it is shaped, and what it is bound by, is published here for anyone.
Some things are only ever learned from one person who knows you. But an unbounded mentoring relationship becomes dependence, and a mentor with no end date becomes a bottleneck. So this place is built around a shape: a purpose agreed at the start, and a closure designed in from the beginning.
The shape of one relationship
Six beats. The last two are the ones most mentoring never reaches, and they are why this works.
- Preparation. Both people arrive having done something, not having thought about doing something.
- Conversation. The part everyone pictures, and the smallest part of it.
- Commitment. One specific thing, agreed out loud, that will actually be attempted.
- Review. What happened, honestly, including the part that did not happen.
- Closure. The relationship ends on purpose, at the purpose it was opened for. Ending it well is a success.
- Handoff. Where you go next, and who you go to — so closure is a door rather than a drop.
What this place is held to
- A mentoring relationship has a stated purpose. Without one it is a friendship, which is good, but is not this.
- It is bounded. It has a length, and the length is known by both people at the start.
- It is scoped. A mentor holds one area of a person’s life, not all of it.
- Nothing said in it travels anywhere else, ever, without consent.
- A mentee is being formed toward mentoring someone else. Every mentor multiplies mentors, or the relationship terminated in one person.
- Nobody is alone in a step. A mentor who is carrying too much has a steward, and asking for help is the normal state.
No mentoring is happening
No mentor has been appointed, no relationship has been opened, and there is deliberately no way to request one from this page. A request form here would be a promise that a person exists on the other end, and none does yet.
A mentor is not a volunteer who signed up; they are someone formed for it and commissioned to it, which is what the Forge is for. This place opens when the first person has genuinely been through that — and until then it stays a published method rather than an offer.
