How moving forward works.
Every community has a way of deciding who is getting somewhere. Most of them are quietly about how much you consume, how often you show up, or how much you paid. Ours is written down, and most of what is written is a list of things it is not allowed to be.
The whole arc is one sentence long: from I have stopped hoping to I help others hope again. Four seasons sit along it — rediscovering hope, rebuilding confidence, discovering purpose, becoming someone other people move because of. What follows is how anyone would be judged to be travelling it, and the rules that keep that judgement honest.
Five things are looked at. Finishing something is not one of them.
Development made visible, measured by:
- Movement — real change in your actual life, evidenced and witnessed.
- Relationship — the depth and the number of real connections you have here.
- Contribution — what you have given, and to whom.
- Reproduction — who is moving because of you. In the later seasons this is the decisive one.
- Character under difficulty — how you behave when it is hard. Assessed only by people who actually know you.
Three things close a season, and you need all three.
Evidence that you applied something. A witness — a human being who knows you and can say what changed. And a contribution you gave to somebody else. Completing content advances nobody. There is no version of this where you watch enough material and arrive somewhere. How service works publishes what that contribution is asked to be, and why it is asked from the first week.
People decide. Systems only inform.
Nothing automated moves you forward, holds you back, or forms a view about your readiness. Software may notice and prepare; a person decides, and you can see who.
You always know where you stand and who is walking with you.
Your season, what closes it, and the people alongside you are all things you can see. A progression you cannot see is a progression that can be moved without telling you.
Going backwards is normal, and it is not held against you.
Return, plateau and regression are ordinary parts of this. Nobody is downgraded for going quiet, nothing expires because you took a year, and there is no clock running on any of it. It is not competitive, not ranked, and never comparative.
It cannot be bought.
Money may open access to a resource or an intensive experience. It never opens standing, trust or recognition. Those are the two different things most places deliberately blur.
Advancing means being trusted with more of other people’s lives.
It confers responsibility rather than privilege — and there is no top. The far end opens into stewardship, which opens into eldership, which opens into new ground. The arc does not terminate in arriving. It terminates in handing something on.
The first of those trusts is mentoring — carrying a bounded developmental relationship with someone. How mentoring works publishes what that trust involves, and the four things a person holding it may never do.
Recognition exists to make the next person’s service more likely.
It is a multiplication mechanism, not a reward system. What gets recognised: service to others, faithfulness over time, courage in your own journey, people moving because of you, a trust held well, and releasing well. What is never recognised: consumption, presence, streaks, spending, popularity, or output disconnected from any actual person’s benefit.
Every recognition has to say four things — what was done, who it served, why it mattered, and how somebody else could do something like it. A recognition missing that fourth part is not published, because without it the story is just applause.
And recognition has its own limits.
Nominated by people, given by people — software may notice and draft, it never decides. No leaderboards, no ranks, no scarcity: one person’s honour never costs anyone else theirs. It buys no privileges and cannot be accumulated toward anything. If it starts concentrating in a few names, that is treated as a health warning rather than a hall of fame. Some people should not be named publicly, and private honour counts exactly the same.
The highest form of it is not an award. It is the chain, told out loud: this person helped that person, who helped these three.
How recognition works is written down in full — including the four things every honour has to say, and what happens to one that cannot say the fourth.
None of this is running yet. Nobody is in a season, nobody has been recognised, and there is nothing here to join — so read this as the standard being fixed in advance rather than as a description of something on offer. What genuinely exists today is on the map, which says for each place whether you can walk into it now.

None of the above is needed to start. One real thing you can do now, no account.
